MPHS Swimmers Compete in Lufkin

The Mount Pleasant High School Swim Team opened its season on Saturday, October 13, in Lufkin. The combined team placed 4th out of thirteen schools. The Lady Tiger Swimmers placed 4th overall out of twelve Women’s groups while the Men’s Team took 5th place out of eleven Men’s teams. Individual results were as follows:
Girls 200 Medley Relay- 3rd place: Katie Ochoa, Hannah Harvill, MaKayla Houchin, and Joselynn Smith
Boys 200 Medley Relay- 3rd place: Ty Hearron, Sam Sloan, Ryan Sharp, and Jacob Elliott
Boys 200 Free- Ryan Sharp 2nd place
Girls 200 IM- Katie Ochoa 4th place
Girls 50yd Free- Hannah Harvill 3rd place and Joselynn Smith 17th place
Boys 50yd Free- Ty Hearron 2nd place, Sam Sloan 13th place, Jacob Elliott 19th place, Sam Brown 20th place, James Hang 27th place, and John Paul Avila 31st place
Girls 100-yard Free- MaKayla Houchin 2nd place
Boys 100 yard Free- Ryan Sharp 1st place, Sam Brown 21st place, James Hang 28th, Israel Hernandez 30th place, and John Paul Avila 31st place
Girls 200-yard Free Relay- 4th place: Katie Ochoa, Hannah Harvill, MaKayla Houchin, and Joselynn Smith
Boys 200-yard Free Relay- 3rd place: Ryan Sharp, Sam Brown, Sam Sloan, Ty Hearron and 9th place: John Paul Avila, James Hang, Israel Hernandez, and Jacob Elliott
Girls 100-yard Back- Katie Ochoa 5th place and Joselynn Smith 17th place
Boys 100 yard Back- Ty Hearron 4th place and Sam Sloan 11th place
Girls 100-yard Breaststroke- MaKayla Houchin 4th place and Hannah Harvill 5th place
Boys 100-yard Breastroke- Jacob Elliott 10th place

The teams compete again this Saturday, October 20, in Tyler.

MPHS Speech and Debate Places Second at North Lamar Tourney

The Mount Pleasant High School Speech and Debate team continued their season this past Saturday, October 13, at the North Lamar Tournament in Paris. The team placed 2nd as a whole out of 12 teams competing.

Individually, Tripp Hinton placed second in three separate events—Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, and Prose. Ja’Quacy Minter placed 1st in Dramatic Interpretation and 2nd in Poetry. In Congressional Debate, Isabella Greco placed 2nd, and Caroline Rose placed 4th out of over 25 competitors. Reid Pinckard placed 4th in Varsity LD Debate. In Varsity CX Debate the team of Taylor Hubbs and Preston Nguyen placed 6th.

MPHS is hosting a full UIL tournament this Saturday, October 20 on the Mount Pleasant High School campus.
