MPHS art student medals at state VASE competition

MPHS sophomore, Stephanie Hernandez, medaled at the recent State Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE) held at San Marcos Consolidated High School on April 29-30. Her piece, Flower Child, received an IV rating, Exemplary, earning her a state medal. Nineteen students from our region qualified for state, with eight being MPHS students. Hernandez is one of only three students from our area to earn a state medal.

“My students worked so hard to create some amazing art pieces, and it is such an honor to be their teacher,” said MPHS Art instructor Laura Kirkland. “I am humbled to have the opportunity to mentor and work with such tremendous talent. I am so proud of Stephanie and the acknowledgment for her fine work!”

Hernandez will return to MPHS in the fall, setting her sights on making it back to the state in 2023.
