MPHS Seniors Named Wendy’s High School Heisman Winners

Mt. Pleasant High School seniors, Jordan Dickerson, and Rustyn Goolsby have been selected as Wendy’s High School Heisman school winners.

Like the Heisman Memorial Trophy Trust, Wendy’s believes in the pursuit of athletic and academic excellence with integrity. Since 1994, Wendy’s and the Heisman Trophy Trust have been running the same play to perfection: honoring some of the nation’s most esteemed students.

Jordan is the daughter of Kenny and Carole Dickerson. She is a four-year starter of the MPHS Varsity Softball team and also played Varsity Basketball for three years. As a freshman, Jordan was awarded All-District Freshman of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year in softball, and in basketball, she received All-District Honorable Mention and Most Improved Player. In her sophomore year, she was selected All-District MVP for softball and Offensive Player of the Year for basketball. As a junior, she was awarded Defensive Player of the Year for softball and 1st Team All-District for basketball. She received Academic All-District honors each year.

Jordan is a member of National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, HOSA, and FBLA. She enjoys giving back to her community by teaching fundamental basketball and softball skills to elementary students, volunteering with the Pilot Club League of Dreams, serving at her elementary school in various capacities, and participating in community food drives.

Rustyn is the son of Greg and Jerilyn Goolsby. He is a four-year member of the MPHS Varsity Golf team where he was selected to the 5-A All-District Team and qualified for the regional tournament as a freshman. Also in his freshman year, he won First Place at the Mt. Pleasant Invitational Golf Tournament, was a Drive Chip and Putt Regional Qualifier, was chosen as a Longview News-Journal Best Prep Nominee, and was an NTPGA Who’s Next Featured Golfer. In his junior year, he placed 1st in the Lindale Invitational Tournament and the Arnie Invitational Match Play, was selected to the 5-A All-Regional Team, and qualified for the 5-A State Golf Tournament.

In addition to his other honors, Rustyn was recently selected to participate in the 2018 PURE Insurance Championship in Pebble Beach, California. During the tournament, eighty-one junior golfers were teamed with 81 PGA Tour Champions players and 162 amateurs during an official PGA Tour Champions tournament. Rustyn was teamed with Tim Petrovic, and together they shot 70-68.

Rustyn is a member of the National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, Skills USA, and several Junior Golf Associations. He serves his community by volunteering with the Salvation Army Bell Ringer program, Titus County Cares, and he serves as a junior golf mentor. He is a member of First Baptist Church.
