MPHS Congressional Debaters Qualify for State
The Mount Pleasant High School Congressional Debate Team competed in the Regional Debate competition in Hooks on Thursday (Nov 8). They went up against the 5A schools in our region, and Mount Pleasant had a great showing. The team took 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th places in the competition.
Sophomore Ryan Sharp was the regional champion taking 1st and advancing to State. Junior Caroline Rose placed 3rd and also advanced to state.
Freshman Connelly Cowan finished 4th and is the Alternate to State.
Sophomore Isabella Greco finished 5th and is the 2nd Alternate to State.
“We had great success last year and graduated our top three speakers,” said MPHS Speech and Debate Coach Cody Morris. “This year we had mostly underclassmen, except for one junior. It was awesome to see them step up and replicate the success our seniors had last year. I say this every year, but it is such a pleasure to coach at Mount Pleasant. We have the best students. I am excited to see what these young guns can do in Austin!”
The MPHS Congressional Debate team will compete at State in Austin, January 7-9, 2019.
