MPHS UIL places 2nd at Winter Tiger Invitational

The Mount Pleasant High School UIL Academic team continued its season on Friday and Saturday, January 20-21, at the annual Winter Tiger Invitational held on the Mount Pleasant High School campus. Overall, Mount Pleasant High School took second place as a team out of eleven schools at the meet. In addition, four, including Current Events, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Calculator Applications, took 1st place team honors in their respective events.

-Calculator Applications (1st place team)

The MPHS UIL Academic teams will compete again at the 16th annual Whitehouse Wildcat Winter Games on January 27-28 as they prepare for the district meet in March.

MPHS Lady Tiger Powerlifting kicks off the season

Thursday, January 12, was a first for the MPHS Lady Tiger Powerlifting team as they hosted their first-ever dual meet with neighboring Sulphur Springs. The two are familiar foes, competing against each other in 5A Region 3 for the past 10+ years. The Lady Tigers picked up where they left off in 2022, claiming 13 medals with numerous personal records on the night.

Taking 1st place in their respective weight classes were senior and 2022 State Champion Nayeli Jaimes, who crushed last year’s state total by lifting 1025 lbs., sophomore Jasmine Landaverde with 560 lbs., and senior Alexandra Martinez with a 790 lb. total.

Taking home 2nd place medals in their respective weight classes were junior Araceli Landaverde with a total of 530 lbs., senior Audrie Mendoza with a capacity of 480 lbs., junior Saniya Milton with a total of 570 lbs., and junior McKinsee Oviedo by lifting 785 lbs.

Placing 3rd in their respective weight classes were sophomore Karen Hernandez totaling 400 lbs., sophomore Dori Macedo, with a 470 lb. total, junior Zoe Zittel reaching a new capacity of 605 lbs., and senior Jenna Cook setting new PRs, with a total of 690 lbs.

Also competing for the Lady Tigers was junior Abigail Retana totaling 445 lbs. and finishing 4th in her weight class. Sophomore Xitlaly Sanchez totaled 590 lbs. and placed 4th in her weight class, junior Jordan West, with a total of 435 lbs. finished 6th in her weight class, and junior Brianne Davis captured a 6th place finish in her weight class with a capacity of 465 lbs.
