MPISD Colorguards Have Successful Competition Season

The Mount Pleasant High School and Mount Pleasant Junior High School Colorguards completed their competition season earlier this month, winning numerous awards and honors. The guards competed in two competitions this season: The Marching Auxiliaries Nationals in Fort Worth and The Whitehouse, Texas Twirling and Colorguard competition.
The Junior High and Junior Varsity Winterguards both placed first at the Marching Auxiliaries Nationals. The Varsity Winterguard was a Top Ten Finisher at the competition.
At the Whitehouse Competition, the Mount Pleasant ISD teams swept the top places. The Junior High, Junior Varsity, and Varsity teams all took 1st place.
Individual awards at the Marching Auxiliaries Nationals were: 1st place Youth Flag Duet-Gracie McClendon and Abby Phelan; 5th place Junior Flag Solo-Kylie Hedge; 2nd place Junior Flag Solo-Taryn Thurman; 3rd place Senior 15-16 Flag Solo-Katherine Lopez; 2nd place Senior 15-16 Flag Solo-Eileen Martinez and 3rd place Senior 17-18 Flag Solo-Jorge Banda.
In addition to the teams taking 1st place, members of the teams brought home individual awards from the Whitehouse Twirling and Colorguard Competition: 1st place Junior High Ensemble (Duet)-Gracie McClendon and Abby Phelan; 3rd place Junior High Solo-Jonathan Tepatate; 2nd place Junior High Solo-Daisy Lozano; 3rd place 9th -10th grade solo-Kylie Hedge; 2nd place 9th-10th grade solo-Sashi Poudel; 1st place 9th-10th grade solo-Taryn Thurman; 4th place 11th-12th grade Flag solo-Eileen Martinez; 3rd place 11th-12th grade Flag solo-Jorge Banda; 2nd place 11th-12th grade Flag solo-Katherine Lopez and 1st place 11th-12th grade Flag/Rifle solo-Peyton McClendon.
The guards are under the direction of Marty M. Newman and Brandy Hughes.
