MPHS Bass Fishing Team competes on Lake Tyler

The Mount Pleasant High School Bass Fishing Team continued its season in the first tournament of the spring semester at the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) tournament on Lake Tyler on February 12.

Freshmen Rolston Morton and Seth Robertson finished in 23rd place out of 110 teams, with two fish weighing in at 4.48 lbs. Boat Captain for Morton and Robertson is Randy Hinton.

The MPHS Bass Fishing teams will continue their season on March 5 at home on Lake Bob Sandlin.

MPHS senior signs to play collegiate football

Mount Pleasant High School senior Anthony Jeffery signed a letter of intent to play football at Louisiana Christian University. He will be a Safety for the Wildcats while majoring in Electrical Engineering. Located in Pineville, La., LCU participates in the Sooner Athletic Conference as an NAIA program competing against Southwestern Assemblies of God, Arizona Christian, Ottawa, Oklahoma Panhandle State, Wayland Baptist, Texas Wesleyan, Langston, Lyon College, and Texas College.

Jeffery has been a six-year member of Tiger football, playing Safety. He was a Second-Team All-District Safety and broke his senior season’s tackling record. When not playing football, Jeffery enjoys mentoring and motivating the youth around him, being active in discussion in class about various topics, is a massive fan of anime, and has recently become interested in fashion design. He is the son of Anthony Jeffery, Sr., and Shalinda Jeffery.

Evan Grissom

MPHS senior signs to play collegiate baseball

Mount Pleasant High School senior Evan Grissom signed a letter of intent to play football at National Park College, where he will be an outfielder for the Nighthawks while majoring in Nursing. NPC at Hot Springs, Ar., participates in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region II. They compete against Carl Albert State, South Arkansas Community College, Murray State, Northern Oklahoma in Tonkawa, Northern Oklahoma in Enid, Redlands Community College, the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain, and Western Oklahoma State College.

Grissom has been a three-year member of Tiger baseball, playing in the outfield. They selected him for the Honorable Mention All-District team. Grissom said, “I am grateful for the opportunity given by the MPHS Baseball program and am thankful for my coaches and teammates.” He is the son of Jenna Grissom-Denman.

Nic Chappell III

MPHS senior signs to play collegiate football

Mount Pleasant High School senior Nic Chappell III signed a letter of intent to play football at Louisiana Christian University. He will be a Linebacker for the Wildcats while majoring in accounting and finance. Located in Pineville, La., LCU participates in the Sooner Athletic Conference as an NAIA program competing against Southwestern Assemblies of God, Arizona Christian, Ottawa, Oklahoma Panhandle State, Wayland Baptist, Texas Wesleyan, Langston, Lyon College, and Texas College.

Chappell has been a six-year member of Tiger football, where he has played Left Guard, Center, Long Snapper, Middle Linebacker, Tight End, and Nose Tackle. He was a two-time Second-Team All-District Middle Linebacker in 2020 and 2021, the 2021 MPHS Defensive Player of the Year, and a 2021 Elite Team Academic All-State team member. He is the son of Henry and Lyndee Chappell.
