Mt Pleasant Man Jailed After Officer Involved Shooting In Longview

Press Release by the Longview Police Department:

The Longview Police Department is assisting the Texas Rangers in an officer-involved shooting that occurred on December 23, around 8:00 pm.

A Longview Police Officer attempted to confront a suspicious person at 1402 E. Marshall Ave. Shortly after the officer made contact there was a confrontation with the suspect who was identified as 33-year-old Randy Carl Jeffrey of Mt Pleasant.

During the confrontation, Jeffrey began shooting at the officer. The officer returned fire striking Jeffrey. Jeffrey did sustain a non-life-threatening injury.

Jeffrey was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released.

Jeffrey was then transported to the Gregg County Jail and charged with attempted capital murder.

The officer was not injured.

UPDATE – Jeffrey was also charged with an outstanding warrant from Harrison County and violating his parole.  Bond was set at $365,000 and he remains in the Gregg County jail.
