Mt. Vernon Players Ruled Eligible Plus Cowboys Cut Taco In Today’s Sports Update

After questions were raised about the eligibility of two players that transferred to Mt Vernon High School and their football program from Colorado, a District Executive Committee meeting was held Wednesday morning. In that meeting, three members voted in favor of Mt Vernon, while three others abstained. The results of the vote will now be sent to UIL for review. This means that these students remain eligible to play football.

The weekly high school football Harris rankings are out and Paris has moved up to the number three spot in district 4A, Division I, behind Argyle and Carthage. The Wildcats will play Mt Pleasant this Friday night. The Rivercrest Rebels are also in the top 20 as they come in at number 17 in 2A, Division I. Rivercrest will play Prairiland on Friday night.

The Rangers brightest prospects are headed to Dr. Pepper Ballpark for Rangers Futures Camp! On October 4 and 6 Josh Jung, Sam Huff, and familiar faces Leody Taveras, Tyler Phillips, and DeMarcus Evans will face off against the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Week three of the NFL season gets going today as Jacksonville hosts Tennessee. Jacksonville is looking for their first win of the season. While the Titans are 1–1. Reports are that Jalen Ramsey will be traded after Thursday’s game.

Houston won its fifth straight and 100th game of the season, becoming one of six teams in major league history to win at least 100 games in three straight seasons. The Astros lost at least 100 games in three straight seasons from 2011–13. With the win, Houston clinched a playoff berth. Texas is off today.

Coming up this Friday night in High school football on the radio, Mt Pleasant is back in action with a Homecoming game with Paris at 7:30 pm on KLAKE 97.7 and KBUS 101.9, Mt Vernon will host Winnsboro in a clash at 7:30 pm on STAR Country 96.9. It’s also Homecoming at Sulphur Springs as they host Royse City at 7:30 pm on STAR Country 95.5. Also Friday night, Pittsburg is at Van, Waskom visits Paul Pewitt, Daingerfield is at DeKalb, Tatum will travel to Hughes Springs, Gilmer travels to Carthage, North Lamar is at Jefferson and Rivercrest is at Prairiland.

A Marshall High School football player was killed Wednesday morning at about 6:30 in a single-vehicle crash on the way to school. State Troopers say senior Hayden Blalock struck a wild hog, ran off the road, struck a culvert, and overturned several times. He was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Dallas Cowboys have released former first-round pick, Taco Charlton. With the roster exemption for Robert Quinn’s return expiring Wednesday, the Cowboys opted to cut ties with Charlton, despite being on the hook for more than $1.8 million in guaranteed base salary over the next two years.

Pittsburgh-area law enforcement looked into an allegation that Antonio Brown committed a sexual assault in June of 2017, but authorities won’t prosecute him due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
