After losing in five sets to Commerce on the road in their district opener, the Prairiland Lady Patriots have been on a mission to reclaim the top spot. Last night at home, Prairiland did just that as they swept Commerce 25-13, 25-22, 25-17.
The Paris Wildcats continued their domination in the district as they defeated Pittsburg in straight sets. Paris is now 5-0 in the district and will host North Lamar Friday night. Paris beat the Pantherettes the first time they met in district in five sets.

The Washington Nationals are headed to the World Series for the first time ever after a four-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals. Washington jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning last night and held on for a 7-4 win. Howie Kendrick was named the NLCS Most Valuable Player. With the win, the Seattle Mariners are now the only MLB team to never be in a World Series.
In the ALCS, the Houston Astros took a 2-1 series lead after they beat New York 4-1. Game 4 is tonight.
In the NFL, The Los Angeles Rams acquired cornerback Jalen Ramsey from the Jacksonville Jaguars for two first-round picks – one in 2020 and one in 2021 – and a 2021 fourth-rounder.
The Dallas Cowboys got some bad news as Defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford has to have season-ending surgery this week to repair a hip injury. He’ll be placed on injured reserve and miss the rest of the season. Crawford missed games against the Dolphins and Saints but tried to play with the injury the last past two weeks.
The University Interscholastic League will have its State Executive Committee listen to an appeal by Mount Vernon ISD on Tuesday, October 22 at 9:30 in Austin. The committee will consider the eligibility of two football players, that had previously been deemed eligible, then not.

New Orleans Saints’ cornerback P.J. Williams, who has started five of six games this season, has been suspended for the next two weeks of the season for violating the NFL’s substance-abuse policy. Williams was arrested on a drunken-driving charge in January.
The man who was mistakenly identified by the Cleveland Browns as the fan that poured beer on a Tennessee Titans’ player has filed a lawsuit against the team. Eric Smith filed the lawsuit Tuesday morning in Cuyahoga County. According to his attorney Bruce Taubman, Smith is seeking a public retraction from the Browns, in addition to financial damages. The problem was, Smith wasn’t even at the game, and says he was DJing a wedding that day.
The Los Angeles Rams have traded cornerback Marcus Peters to the Baltimore Ravens for linebacker Kenny Young and an undisclosed 2020 draft pick. The pick is a fifth-rounder. Peters is in the fifth and final season of his rookie contract. The Rams acquired the former first-rounder from the Kansas City Chiefs before the 2018 season.
