The start of September means many new laws, including one regarding restaurants, go into effect. It requires higher awareness about food allergies. Kelsey Erickson-Streufert with the Texas Restaurant Association says the goal is to make customers feel comfortable dining out. The law was named after 24-year-old Sergio Lopez of McAllen. He was allergic to peanuts and died after eating a vegetarian taco.
