Next Round of Baseball and Softball Playoffs Begin Plus Cowboys Sign Elliot

Paris – The North Lamar Panthers and Pantherette’s are scheduled to begin their respective playoff series tonight. The Pantherette’s will meet Krum in the regional semi-final round starting with game 1 tonight in Prosper at 7pm. Game two is tomorrow in Bonham at 7 and game three, if necessary, is 4pm on Saturday back in Prosper. All games will be carried on MIX 107.7. North Lamar baseball will face off with Athens in the regional quarterfinals on KOYN 93.9. Game one this evening is at 6:30 in Lindale. Game two tomorrow is in Sulphur Springs at 6:30. And game three is back in Lindale on Saturday at 2pm, if needed.

Mount Pleasant – The City of Mt. Pleasant welcomes in a new baseball and softball academy, founded by former Major Leaguer, Jess Todd and co-owner Erica Todd. Located on highway 49, the business features batting and pitching cages as well as team meeting areas.

The Pittsburg Pirates advance to the regional quarterfinals of the High School Baseball Playoffs. They’ll take on district Rival and 15-4A Champion, Pleasant Grove. Game one of the best of three series is tonight at Pleasant Grove at 7pm. Game two is Friday at Pittsburg at 5. Game three would follow, if necessary. All Pittsburg Pirates playoff baseball games can be heard live on Star 96.9.

Sulphur Springs – District accolades continue to be dealt out to area teams. The Sulphur Bluff Bears had several players recognized, including Junior Marshall Anderson rewarded as the district’s defensive player of the year. Players to land on the all-district first team include outfielders Bennon Seymore, and Thomas Coberly, first baseman Cody Vance, and designated hitter Taylor Josey.

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats took on the Gilmer Buckeyes in 7 on 7 competition on Tuesday evening. Taking the snaps for the Wildcats were Ryan Humphries and Taylor Armstrong. Sulphur Springs varsity teams, along with the 7th grade teams, will travel to Gilmer for another match on Saturday.

Yesterday afternoon the Texas Rangers fall 8-1, getting swept in three games at the hands of AL West rival Oakland. The loss gives the Rangers a 22-19 record, one game behind Seattle in the AL West. The Rangers have the day off today before returning to action tomorrow when they begin a three games series in Houston against the Astros [on kplt 1490am and 96.3fm]. First pitch tomorrow is at 7:10pm Central Time.

In the NBA playoffs the Golden State Warriors bounce back in game two of the Western Conference Finals last night, beating the OKC Thunder 118-91. The series is tied at one game apiece. The East finals continue tonight with Cleveland leading Toronto 1-0. Tip off tonight is set for 7:30.

And the Dallas Cowboys sign four members of their rookie class to contracts yesterday, including a four year $24.9 million fully guaranteed deal for first round running back Ezekiel Elliott. The Cowboys also signed three of their four sixth round picks, defensive back Anthony Brown of Purdue, Safety Kavon Frazier of Central Michigan and Running Back Darius Jackson of Eastern Michigan.
