Next Round of Playoffs Set in Today’s Local Sports

Paris – Five Red River Valley teams will compete in the Area round of the boys high school basketball playoffs beginning tomorrow night and wrapping up on Saturday.  Friday night is headlined by the 2nd ranked Clarksville Tigers taking on Fruitvale at Sulphur Springs high school at 7:30.  The Prairiland Patriots look for an upset over 7th ranked Van Alstyne.  The game will be played at Bonham high school.  And the Roxton Lions will take on Bellevue at Anna high school.  Prairiland and Roxton will tip off at 7pm.  On Saturday afternoon the North Lamar Panthers are back at Sulphur Springs where they’ll be up against Athens.  The game can be heard on MIX 107.7. Pre-game begins at 1:45. Tip off is at 2pm.  Later in the evening Sulphur Springs high school will host the 5th ranked Paris Wildcats and the Canton Eagles.  Pre-gam on 101.9 KBUS is scheduled for 6:45.  Tip off is at 7.

 

Mount Pleasant – Coaches have released the 15-5A all-district selections in boys high school basketball.  Mt. Pleasant Tigers Junior Forward James Moore was named the districts offensive player of the year, while senior guard Jesse Morales is a 1st team selection.  Senior Dexter Roberson, Sophomore Buddy McGill and freshman Dorian Glinton are all-district 2nd team.

 

The regional tournament kicks off tomorrow evening for girls high school basketball.  The 17th ranked Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers will take on Grandview at Rockwall ISD.  Mt. Vernon girls basketball can be heard live on KLAKE 97.7.  Tip off tomorrow is at 8pm.  And the Gilmer Lady Buckeyes face Argyle at Texas A&M Commerce at 8.

 

In the area round of the boys playoffs tonight the Mt. Vernon Tigers take on the Tom Bean Tomcats at Paris high at 7pm.  Tomorrow night the 25th ranked Daingerfield Tigers play 23rd ranked Whitewright.  The game will be played at Wills Point high school with live play by play on Star 96.9. Tip off is at 6pm.

 

Sulphur Springs – The regional tournament kicks off tomorrow evening for girls high school basketball.  The 17th ranked Mt. Vernon Lady Tigers will take on Grandview at Rockwall ISD.  Mt. Vernon girls basketball can be heard live on KLAKE 97.7.  Tip off tomorrow is at 8pm.

 

In the area round of the boys playoffs tonight the Mt. Vernon Tigers take on the Tom Bean Tomcats.  The game will be played at Paris High school’s Wildcat Gym.  Tip off tonight between Mt. Vernon and Tom Bean is set for 7pm.  On Saturday evening Alba-Golden boys hoops will take on DeKalb.  They’ll also meet at Paris High.  Tip off Saturday is set for 7pm.

 

Playoff basketball games this weekend being played at Sulphur Springs high school includes the 2nd ranked Clarksville Tigers from Class 2A against Fruitvale tomorrow night at 7:30. On Saturday North Lamar will play Athens at 2pm and the 5th ranked Paris Wildcats in class 4A will play Canton at 7pm.

 

Last night in the NBA The Dallas Mavericks fall to the OKC Thunder 116-103.  The loss moves the Mavs down to the 7th seed in the western conference.  

 

Tonight the Dallas Stars take on play game two of a home and home against the Winnipeg Jets.  This time at the AAC.  The Stars lead the Western Conference with 82 points on the season.  Puck drop tonight is set for 7:30.
And in the first leg of the UEFA Champions Manchester City beats Dynamo Kiev 3-1 behind goals from Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Yaya Toure.  And Atletico Madrid draws nil-nil PSV Eindhoven.
