High school debaters from all over Texas competed during Spring Break at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Cross Examination competition. Of the six top Texas teams, two were from North Lamar.
Junior Kay Edwards and Freshman Zach Huffman were named Silver Medalist in Conference 4A while Sophomore Colin Hodgkiss and Junior Steele Musgrove finished in a strong sixth place. Both medals represent hundreds of research hours, case writing and practice tournaments on weekends.
Sixty-four teams from across Texas advanced to the state meet. After the first day of competition, the gap is narrowed to sixteen of the top teams. In the second day of competition, teams advance through octofinals, quarterfinals, semifinals and finals with teams eliminated after each round.
Coach for the successful North Lamar debate teams is Kristi Hodgkiss.
