North Lamar and Paris High School Student Council Members Join Forces for Paris

Student Council members from North Lamar and Paris high schools came together at Calvary United Methodist Church for a leadership workshop this week.  Sponsors Kim Ekstrom and Danielle Chesshire from Paris and Stacy Mobley from North Lamar collaborated efforts by bringing the two groups together under one roof.

“What a great idea to have our Student Council members work together for our community,” said Ekstrom.

Paris Councilman Edwin Pickle spoke to the students about leadership and the importance of community involvement.  He challenged the students to become more involved in the Paris community and offered a few suggestions that included the Trash Off scheduled for March 26 and the idea of a student-led Junior United Way.  Each school chose a student point of contact for Pickle.

In small groups, students had an opportunity to discuss service project ideas.  Each of the six groups elected a scribe and a speaker to present project ideas discussed.  Items discussed include Lake Crook and Wade Park improvements, homeless shelter assistance, creating community gardens and fundraising ideas.  The Student Council Collaboration Team will meet again during the Spring Semester.

“The students impressed me with their ideas and how well they worked together,” said Mobley.  “I look forward to seeing what they accomplish over the next several months.”

Superintendents John McCullough and Paul Jones were also in attendance to support their Student Government Bodies.
