On Monday, September 16, North Lamar High School Choir hosted its first-ever Burger Wars event, bringing the community together for a fun-filled afternoon of competition, great food, and support for a good cause. Over 400 attendees turned out to sample burgers and vote for their favorites, helping raise $5,000 to support the choir’s upcoming performance at Carnegie Hall this summer.

The competition was fierce, but in the end, the winners were clear:

  • Best Burger: North Lamar High School Football
  • Best Side: North Lamar High School Football
  • Best Dessert: Frank Stone Middle School Volleyball
L to R Justin Wideman, Amy Scholl, Pam Whitten, Misty Curtis, Stephanie Wideman, Jana Toler, Liz and Bo Exum

Choir Director Rebecca Hildreth expressed her excitement about the success of the event. “The turnout was way better than I expected.  I can’t thank the community enough for supporting this event. The North Lamar HS Choir is very thankful!” she said.

Following the Burger Wars, the community gathered for a pep rally to kick off North Lamar’s homecoming week. The Panther Band energized the crowd with the school’s fight song, while the cheerleaders kept the excitement going with spirited cheers. Head football coach Patrick Watkins introduced the players and offered encouraging words for the upcoming football game.

Students Britton Trammel, Levi Streety, Avalynn Trammel, Sophia Streety, cheerleader Kyleigh Fields, and Klara Waldroup enjoy the atmosphere.

Quentis King MCed the pep rally and introduced the 2024 homecoming nominees, capping off a day of Panther pride and community support.

The funds raised through Burger Wars will help North Lamar Choir students travel to New York City to perform at Carnegie Hall, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the school and its students.

Sophomore cheerleaders Mayzie Musgrove and Rachel Barnett pause for a quick pose while the band plays the school song.
