North Lamar High School students competed at the UIL Region II Academic Tournament on April 14 on the campus of Texas A&M University-Commerce. First place teams from North Lamar were Literary Criticism, coached by Dr. Linda Winfrey, and Speech and Debate, coached by Kristi Hodgkiss. The teams will be competing for the state in May on the University of Texas at Austin campus.
Kyra Conlin placed first in Literary Criticism and will compete at state. Other members of the Literary Criticism Team advancing to state are Heather Armstrong, Katie Conlin, and Teagan Holley.
Advancing to state in Informative Speaking is first place winner Zach Huffman and third place winner Katie Hodgkiss. Garrett Holzwarth placed fourth and is alternate to state.
Advancing in Persuasive Speaking is first place winner Colin Hodgkiss and third place winner Mason Remaley.
Out of 29 teams that competed at the region, North Lamar’s Academic Team placed third overall.
