North Lamar ISD Names Teachers Of The Year

An appreciation banquet for North Lamar ISD employees was held Thursday evening to honor those who make a difference to students and co-workers throughout the year. Superintendent Dr. Jason Adams and District administrators recognized employees for their years of service to the district, honored those retiring, and presented special awards to those who have gone above and beyond assisting students and colleagues.

Adams announced the 2018 North Lamar Teachers of the Year. Janie Sharrock, Stone Middle School math lab instructor, was named Secondary Teacher of the Year. Kristen Blanton, Higgins Elementary kindergarten teacher, was named Elementary Teacher of the Year.

Others named as Teacher of the Year for their campus were Kendall Kirk at North Lamar High School, Brenda Shackelford at Bailey Intermediate, Kim Johnson at Aaron Parker Elementary, and Mark Caldwell at Everett Elementary.

Recipients of the district’s special awards were NL Chief of Police Mike Boaz for Auxiliary of the Year, Everett math tutor Kara Lane for Support Staff of the Year, Higgins secretary Melissa Harris for Paraprofessional of the Year, and Bailey inclusion teacher Karen Johnson for Special Educator of the Year.

Retiring from North Lamar beginning front row left are Georgia Thompson and Jenene Cannon. On the back-row are Lynnette Johnson, Merita Head, Brenda Shackelford, and Tom Pursifull. Not pictured are Liala Brakebill, Scott Igleheart, Claudia Pursifull, Debora Roberts, Cheryl Smith, and Randy Woodard.

Retiring from the District are Liala Brakebill (30 years), Jenene Cannon (24 years), Merita Head (19 years), Scott Igleheart (12 years), Lynnette Johnson (38 years), Claudia Pursifull (23 years), Tom Pursifull (32 years), Debora Roberts (19 years), Brenda Shackelford (25 years), Cheryl Smith (24 years), Georgia Thompson (21 years)andRandy Woodard (32 years).

Honored and receiving pins for their years of service were: 30 years – Liala Brakebill and Beth Edwards; 25 years – Amanda Barnett, Debbie Basden, Maureen Gordon, Jana Mitchell, Wes Pope, Brenda Shackelford, and Cheryl Vanderburg; 20 years – Wes Brown, Nicole Fitzgerald, Tammy Klinkerman, Kara Lane, LeAnn McGuire, Karen Pfiester, Tammy McGuire, Gay Powell, Terry Price, and Stormie Scott.

Fifteen-year pins were given to Jeff Akard, Janell Allen, Rodrick Bills, Mike Boaz, Melissa Burris, Michael Cowling, Lara Fendley, Dale Freeman, Melissa Gibson, Pam McFarland, Nikki Moss, William St. John, Brittney White, and Donna Womack. Receiving ten-year pins were Teresa Brown, Keitha Chalupa, Launa Doyal, Johnnie Freeman, Amanda King, Hillory McDowell, Tracey Prunty, Ruth Rainey, Darla Seelye, and Regina Whisenhunt.  Others receiving their five-year pins were Gala Baird, Whitney Blount, Martin Bryant, Katrina Creamer, Teresa Estep, Joe Franklin, Jeremy Glossup, John Hodges, Sue Landis, Tracy McMonigle, Patti Michael, James Nelson, Teresa Niblett, Marc Payne, Amanda Pierce, Molly Walker, Aaron Welch, and Kalli Wideman.
