Six North Lamar Speech and Debate Team members will compete in the National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament scheduled for June 12-17 in Salt Lake City, Utah. By qualifying six individuals, the 2015-2016 North Lamar Speech and Debate Team is making history; slating the most national qualifiers a North Lamar team has ever advanced.
Sophomore Colin Hodgkiss and his partner, Junior Steele Musgrove, are to compete in Cross Examination Debate and will be joined by teammates, Junior Jake Chollet and Junior Kay Edwards, who will compete in Student Congress; Junior Jordan Walters who will compete in Extemporaneous Speaking; and Senior Mackenzie Beckmon who will compete in World Schools Debate. The North Lamar team also earned three alternate positions.
The North Lamar Speech and Debate Team, coached by Kristi Hodgkiss and Pam Tuttle, has advanced one or more national qualifiers for the past twelve years. They will be competing along with over 2000 other high school students from across the United States in the largest speech and debate tournament of its kind in the world.
