The cast and directors from North Lamar High School’s fall production of Mary Poppins won the Best Ensemble Award at the 5th Annual Dallas Summer Musical (DSM) High School Musical Theatre Awards. North Lamar was nominated for eight out of sixteen categories and learned of their award at the DSM High School Musical Theatre Awards on Thursday, April 14 at Dallas’s Music Hall in Fair Park.
“When we decided to enter DSM High School Musical Theatre Awards, our goal was to do our best and possibly earn a nomination or two,” said Director Cody Head. “This year we earned eight nominations and took home Best Ensemble Award out of 75 productions from 67 schools. Most the schools are 5A and 6A. It is a testament to the work ethic and talent to the students of the NL Fine Arts!”
Rebecca Hildreth, who earned a nomination for Best Musical Direction, said, “Winning Best Ensemble goes to show what a well-blended cast Mary Poppins was!”
Others nominations included Best Featured Actor, Paul Bayer as Robertson Ay; Best Featured Actress, Anna Holbrook as Mrs. Brill; Best Supporting Actress, Kallyn Burchinal as Winifred Banks; Best Lighting Design, Cody Head; Best Crew and Technical Execution; and Best Direction, Cody Head.
The DSM High School Musical Theatre Awards is patterned after Broadway’s Tony Awards® to spotlight the achievements of high school students and their school’s musical theatre programs.
