Titus County firefighters didn’t get much time off for the Christmas weekend. All the calls, but one was for grass fires, and the one was a minor accident on TX-49. High winds and dry conditions make it unsafe to do outside burning or ignite fireworks in Northeast Texas. The relative humidity is dropping, and combine that with the high winds is a recipe for disaster. The Texas A&M Forest Service placed Smith and surrounding counties in a high fire danger zone. The fire danger in far northwest Wood County was rated “extremely high” on Sunday.
