Nowitzki Gets New Deal Plus Rangers Take on Angels Tonight

The Dallas Mavericks all-time franchise player and sixth leading scorer in NBA History, Dirk Nowitzki has signed a two-year contract worth $10 million to stay in the DFW. The Mavs turned down a team option that would’ve paid Dirk $25 million, and instead opens up cap space. The season coming up is the 20th of his career. Only Kobe Bryant has spent 20 seasons with the same team. The Mavs also send last year’s second round pick, A.J. Hammond, to the Miami Heat in exchange for veteran Forward Josh McRoberts.

The Texas Rangers begin a weekend series tonight with AL-West Rival, Anaheim. It is the final three-game set before the break. Texas currently resides in third place in the division at 41-44, only one game back of the Angels for the second. Rangers shortstop, Elvis Andrus, came up short in the American League’s Final Vote for the last All-Star spot. Andrus did, however, take a break from the team due to the birth of his first child.
