Five Northeast Texas Community College Honors students recently represented NTCC at the annual meeting of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) in Boston. It is the 11th year NTCC has sent students to present scholarly work at the national conference. Jazmin Garcia, of Mt Pleasant; Jordan Whelchel, of Daingerfield; Hannah Dickson, of Pittsburg; Matthew Chambers, of Mt Pleasant; and Rhylie Anderson of Winnsboro, were accompanied by NTCC history professors Dr. Andrew Yox, NTCC Honors Director, and Dr. Melissa Fulgham, who also served as a poster judge.

Anderson, Chambers, Dickson, and Garcia all qualified for poster presentations, where they displayed, discussed and defended their original research to a panel of judges. Their work was up against mostly junior and senior university students from all over the country. The NTCC group also presented a general session with the honors college of Valparaiso University, Christ College in Indiana on “The Spaceport: Lifting and Uplifting the Honors Experience with a Dramatic Production.”

Dickson also served as an elected Student Representative at the meeting of the Great Plains Honors Council. In addition to the meeting, students also got to experience many of the cultural and historical sites in Boston. To learn more about Honors Northeast, visit www.ntcc.edu/honors.
