NTCC – Sports

Emily Cole | Tasha Pierce

Eagle Softball vs. Cisco College

Northeast Texas Community College softball returned home to NTCC to take on Cisco College after starting 2021 on the road. NTCC would down Cisco 14-5 in game one action before falling 10-1 in Game two.

Cisco would get on the board first, scoring one run in the first inning and adding a second run in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead. The lead was short-lived as NTCC would answer back in the second inning, plating four runs to take the lead and never look back. The Eagle offense would use seven well-timed hits to go along with six walks, a few hit batters, and a fielding error to score fourteen runs in game one.

Emily Cole (Paul Pewitt HS) would be in the circle for game one and was able to keep the Cisco hitters off balance and limit them to five runs on five hits.

Tasha Pierce (Hudson HS) had a good day offensively, reaching base in all three plate appearances. She was one for one with a Homerun, hit by a pitch and a walk, and scored three runs in the game to help the Eagles win game one.

Game 2 of the series, NTCC could not take advantage of four walks by the Cisco pitcher, having just three hits and scoring one in the fourth inning.

After a scoreless first inning, Cisco scored five runs in the second inning and never looked back as they defeated NTCC 10-1.

Averie Ayers (Mount Pleasant HS) was in the circle for NTCC and would strike out two while giving up eleven hits and five walks.

NTCC will take on Grayson College on Wednesday, February 10, at 3:00 pm in a doubleheader at home on the NTCC campus.

NTCC Baseball Splits with Arkansas Rich Mountain

Northeast Texas Community College took game one of the homestand Saturday, defeating Arkansas Rich Mountain 4-3 before falling in game two in a slugfest, 27-17. Both teams won two games each in the season-opening series.

Game one action, NTCC sent Kaleb Wisnoski (Navasota HS) to the mound to start the game. Wisnoski struck out five batters while just giving up four hits. Chase Richter (Cypress Woods HS), Camden Sargent (Brazosport Christian HS), and Ryan Taylor (Frisco Wakeland HS) would each add one inning of work in the relief.

The Eagle hitters got NTCC on the board in the second inning when Sawyer Thornhill (Huntington HS) doubled and later scored when Drew Baggerley (Deer Park HS) put the ball in play forced an error. Thornhill was getting started having a great day at the plate. In the first game, he went one for two with a walk, and two runs scored. Game two saw Thornhill stay hot, going four for four with another walk, two more runs scored, and three runs batted in to bring his two-game total to five for six with two walks, four runs scored, and three RBI’s.

At the bottom of the sixth inning, NTCC was down by a 3-1, but back-to-back lead-off walks would pay off when Baggerly would double to left-center, scoring Caleb Munton (Abilene Wylie HS) and Thornhill, who had both walked to start the inning. Luke McBride (Nashville, AR HS) would drive in Baggerly with what would prove to be the game-winning run when he singled to the right- filed to put NTCC up 4-3.

Game two saw a 12-9 lead by NTCC shattered in the seventh inning when Arkansas Rich Mountain took advantage of back-to-back singles and a walk with a grand slam that changed the game’s course.

Despite a towering home run to straightaway center field by Khalon Clayton (Kilgore HS) and out hitting the Bucks from Rich Mountain 18-17, the Eagles could not overcome nine untimely walks and two fielding errors and maintain the lead.

NTCC will play the next few games at home. The Eagles will take on Hill College in a single match at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 8, and weather permitting, hosts Pratt Junior College Friday and Saturday, February 12-13, games starting at 1:00 pm each day.
