Obituary For State Trooper Killed In Lamar County Crash

Services for Trooper Jeffrey Nichols will begin Wednesday in Paris. Trooper Nichols died in the line of duty as a result of a one-vehicle traffic crash on Saturday in Lamar County.

Visitation for law enforcement and emergency services personnel only will be held Wednesday from 5 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home (located at 730 Clarksville Street, Paris, TX 75460). The public visitation will be 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.the same day.

 

The funeral services will take place Thursday at Lamar Avenue Church of Christ at 2 p.m. (The church is located at 3535 Lamar Ave., Paris, TX 75460). There will be no interment.

 

“For more than four years, Trooper Jeffrey Nichols bravely and faithfully answered the call of duty to protect and serve his fellow Texans,” said DPS Director Steven McCraw. “Very few people have what it takes to be a peace officer, and DPS is eternally grateful for Trooper Nichols’ selfless dedication to this department and the entire state of Texas. He will always be part of the DPS family.”

 

Trooper Nichols joined DPS in August of 2011 and was stationed in Paris. He is the 218th DPS officer to die in the line of duty since 1837. He is survived by his parents, sister and brother.
