Odor Walks Off Rangers Plus Cowboys Tomorrow Night

Paris – Last night in high school volleyball the 10th ranked Detroit Lady Eagles dominate Como-Pickton in straight sets 25-8, 25-6 and 25-8. Detroit volleyball is now 21-1 on the season. The North Lamar Pantherettes sweep Royse City 25-17, 25-7 and 25-8 to improve to 15-2. The Prairiland Lady Patriots fall to Class 5A Texas High in four sets. The Chisum Lady Mustangs lose in four sets, as well, to Commerce and the Paris Lady Cats were swept by Sulphur Springs.

Mount Pleasant – Area football teams play week 2 of the Texas high school football season beginning tomorrow. For the second straight week the Hughes Springs Mustangs play on Thursday night, this time against the Arp Tigers. Kick off on Star 96.9 is at 7pm. On Friday night the Paul Pewitt Brahmas will also be on Star Country when they face the Jefferson Bulldogs and the Mt. Pleasant Tigers are on the road against the North Lamar Panthers on K LAKE 97.7. Pewitt and Mt. Pleasant kick off on Friday at 7:30.

Sulphur Springs – Area football teams play week 2 of the Texas high school football season. Today the Sulphur Springs Wildcats deport for Orlando, Florida, where they’ll take on the Seminole Ridge Hawks. Sulphur Springs is 1-0 after a 43-42 win last week over Sherman. Seminole Ridge is 0-1 after a 20-14 loss to Pahokee. Kickoff on Friday night is set for 8pm. In volleyball, the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats sweep Paris in straight sets 25-24, 25-18, and 25-13.

Last night the Texas Rangers win 8-7 in walk off fashion over the Seattle Mariners. Rougned Odor did the honors in the bottom of the 9th inning with a walk-off two run homer. The Rangers are a season high 25 games over .500 at 79-54 and lead the AL West by 8.5 games over the Houston Astros. The Rangers and Mariners wrap up their the series this afternoon [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm] First pitch is at 1:05.

Tomorrow night [on 101.9 KBUS] the Dallas Cowboys finish up the pre-season against the Houston Texans at AT&T Stadium. Starters are not expected to play much, if any time in the final preseason game. The bulk of the time will go to players on the bubble for the final cut down. The Cowboys must trim the roster down to 53 by 3pm on September 3rd. Kickoff tomorrow night [on the BUS] is at 7pm.

And at the U.S. Open 2nd ranked Andy Murray beats Lukas Rasol while 3rd ranked Stan Wawrinka defeats Fernando Verdasco. On the women’s side, top ranked Serena Williams beat Ekatarina Makarova.
