On February 25, 2023, at approximately 2:18 am, the Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) responded to 2321 S. Jefferson Avenue, the Whataburger, responding to a call to the MPPD 911 Communication Center of someone shooting someone. Officers found a male in the parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds when they arrived. EMS responded and treated the male, but he died shortly later at the Titus Regional Medical Center.

Officers discovered that various parties were involved in an altercation inside the restaurant, and employees asked them to leave. As they exited the business, the suspect shot the victim. The MPPD identified multiple witnesses who they questioned regarding the incident.

The MPPD Criminal Investigations Division responded and identified a suspect. On February 25, 2023, at approximately 9:20 am, detectives arrested Kentravion Jajuan Evans, 18 years old, and booked him into the Titus County Jail for Texas Penal code 19.02, Murder. At this time, no other suspects are outstanding.

They identified the victim as Damien Oneal Jackson, 30 years old, a resident of Mount Pleasant. The MPPD is continuing to investigate the circumstances of this incident.
