Paris Coach Hits Milestone Plus Rangers Open Spring Training

Paris – Count ’em. 500 career wins for Paris high basketball coach, Billy Mack Steed. Last night the Wildcats captured their 3rd straight undefeated district season, beating Pittsburg 63-53. Paris will take on Van next week in the opening round of the playoffs. North Lamar took care of business in Texarkana, beating Liberty Eylau 61-36 to clinch a spot in the post season. Their first opponent will be Brownsboro. Prairiland clinches 3rd place in 13-3A after beating Winnsboro 61-51. Their bi-district round opponent will be either New Boston or Queen City.

Last night in the crosstown showdown on the pitch, the Paris boys soccer team won over North Lamar 6-1. The North Lamar girls defeat the Lady Cats 2-1.

Mount Pleasant – Last night in the girls basketball playoffs, the Rivercrest Lady Rebels advance past Hawkins 43-38. They’ll meet top ranked Martins Mill Thursday night in Mt. Vernon at 6pm. The Mt. Pleasant Tiger basketball team finish district 16-5A undefeated at 12-0 after beating Greenville 80-49. The Tigers open up post season play on Tuesday against Lovejoy at Emory Rains high school at 7pm. The Chapel Hill Red Devils took care of business against Cooper 73-34. At 11-1, Chapel Hill and Mt. Vernon are named co-district champions in 13-3A after the Purple Tigers handled Como Pickton 79-30. The two teams will face off this Friday night at Rivercrest high school to determine the top seed going into the playoffs. Tip off is set for 7pm. 14-3A champion, Daingerfield defeated Queen City 45-34 and plays Chisum in the bi-district round.

Sulphur Springs – Last night the Sulphur Springs Wildcat basketball team wraps up district 16-5A play by beating Hallsville 54-45. At 10-2, the Wildcats meet with North Forney on Tuesday to open the playoffs. Sulphur Springs and North Forney will meet on Tuesday at Lindale High school at 7pm. The Mt. Vernon Tigers take care of business against Como Pickton 79-30. With the victory, the Purple Tigers finish 11-1 and Co-Champions of 13-3A with the Chapel Hill Red Devils. The two teams will meet this Friday night at Rivercrest high school to determine who will be the top seed going into the post season. Tip off Friday night between Mt. Vernon and Chapel Hill at Rivercrest is at 7pm. Saltillo completes an unbeaten season in 23-1A after last night’s 43-38 win over Sulphur Bluff.

The drought continues for the Dallas Stars as they fall to Winnipeg 5-2. The Stars have lost six of their last seven games, all coming in regulation. At 54 points, Dallas slips six points back of a wild card spot in the Western Conference.

Pitcher and catchers have reported for the Texas Rangers. They’ll get to work today before being joined by the rest of the club this coming Tuesday. Spring training games start on the 25th.

And in the UEFA Champions League, Round of 16, a pair of stunners were featured as Paris Saint-Germain dismantles Barcelona 4-nil. Benfica escapes Borussia Dortmund 1-nil. Today Real Madrid is up against Napoli and Arsenal plays Bayern Munich in the first leg. Match times are 1:45pm.
