Paris Defeats Mount Pleasant Plus Carlos Gomez Re-signs With Rangers

Paris – Last night in a top 20 match up, the 18th ranked Paris Wildcats out of class 4A defeat the 18th ranked team in Class 5A, Mt. Pleasant, 83-78. Junior Josh Robinson scored 40 points as Paris improves to 6-0 on the season. The Honey Grove Lady Warriors picked up a signature win over the North Lamar Pantherette’s 44-25. Meanwhile, the North Lamar boys fall to Sulphur Springs 59-33 and the 5th ranked Clarksville Tigers defeat class 4A Liberty Eylau 59-43 and the Prairiland Lady Patriots remain unbeaten with a four point win over the Clarksville girls. Area teams will return to action tomorrow for tournament play.

Mount Pleasant – Area teams were in action last night in high school basketball. The 18th ranked Mt. Pleasant Tigers suffered a loss at the hands of the Paris Wildcats 83-78. Josh McGill led the way with 22 points for the Tigers. James Moore added 20 as Mt. Pleasant falls to 5-2. Paris high junior, Josh Robinson, lead all scorers with 40. The Lady Tigers defeated Pleasant Grove 55-38. Shakyra Hutchings lead all scorers with 19. The 16th ranked Mt. Vernon defeat Daingerfield 57-44 and Chapel Hill falls to 5th ranked 5A TAPPS school All Saints Episcopal 59-62. Area teams will be back in action tomorrow to begin tournament play.

Sulphur Springs – Area teams were in action last night in high school basketball. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats continue their hot start with a 59-33 win over class 4A North Lamar, improving to 8-1 on the season. The Sulphur Springs girls were off yesterda. The 16th ranked Mt. Vernon boys came away with a victory 57-44 over Daingerfield. Mt. Vernon improves to 4-0 on the season.

In college hoops, the Texas A&M Commerce Lions are 7-1 in a solid start to their season. Tomorrow they’ll be on the road for a Lone Star Conference match up against Eastern New Mexico. Tip off from Portales, New Mexico is set for 7:30.

Last night the Dallas Stars fall short on the ice, losing to Calgary 2-1. Curtis McKenzie netted the lone goal for Dallas, his third of the season. The Stars fall to 10-11-6 with 26 points on the season. Putting them in 6th place in the Central Division Standings. The Stars are back on the ice tomorrow against Nashville at 7:30.

Tonight, Harrison Barnes and the Dallas Mavericks take on Demarcus Cousins and the Sacramento Kings at the American Airline Center. The Mavs at 4-16 currently sport the worst record in the NBA. Tip off is at 7:30.

And plenty of action has happened during the Winter Meetings in Major League Baseball. In a blockbuster trade, the Chicago White Sox send pitching ace Chris Sale to the Boston Red Sox in exchange for minor league prospects, including Mt. Pleasant native Michael Kopech. Boston also signed former Ranger and Gold Glover, Mitch Moreland, to a one-year deal. Texas, meanwhile, resigned outfielder Carlos Gomez for one-year and $11.5 million dollars.
