Paris High School Student Makes All-State Band

Anderson Bunch

Anderson Bunch, a member of the Paris High School Blue Blazes Band, has earned a position in the 2022 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) All-State Band.

Bunch, who is a sophomore at Paris High School, is the grandson of Randy and Lucia Bunch. He plays the trumpet in the band under the direction of Charles Grissom. Bunch earned 1st chair at Region his freshman year; he also made a chair in the High School Region Band as an 8th grader.

“The PHS Band and directors are extremely proud of Anderson advancing to the 5A TMEA All-State Band,” says PHS Blue Blazes Band Director Charles Grissom. “He is talented and has demonstrated an amazing work ethic and dedicated himself to being an outstanding musician.”

There are 33 Regions in the state of Texas and 8 Areas. Bunch was the 1st chair trumpet of Region 4 TMEA Band. The top chairs at Region advance to the Area competition, where he placed 2nd for Area C. This year, 1,472 students advanced to the 5A Area competition, with 165 going to the All-State Band. In Bunch’s section, close to 1,000 trumpets statewide auditioned in the process, with only 24 advancing to the All-State Band.

Bunch is involved in baseball, Future Problem Solving, and One Act Play at Paris High School. Outside of high school, he is an Eagle Scout, the youth leadership team at First United Methodist Church, plays in the Paris Municipal Band, and is active in the Paris Community Theater.

Bunch will perform with the 5A TMEA All-State Band in the Lily Cockrell Theater in San Antonio on Saturday, February 12.
