Paris Hoop Tourney Underway Today Plus Luke Could Return Tonight Vs. Spurs In Today’s Sports Update

It’s December 26 and Jason Garrett is still the coach of the Cowboys.

To the dismay of Cowboys’ fans everywhere, Santa did not bring a coaching change to the Cowboys yesterday. Instead, they will hope Garrett and his staff can somehow sneak into the playoffs after losing last week to Philly. Dallas has to beat Washington and then hope the Giants defeat the Eagles. Both games kick-off at 3:25.

The annual Paris holiday tournament gets underway today. North Lamar, Detroit, Clarksville, and Rivercrest all get going at noon. Paris will play at 1:30. Each team has two games today. The Chisum and Detroit girls will both be playing in the Ector tournament. While the Prairiland girls will be at the Leonard tournament. The Clarksville girls will be in the Miller Grove tournament.

The Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs will renew their rivalry tonight at the AAC. The Mavericks hope to get back star guard Luka Doncic tonight after he missed the past four games with an ankle injury. Doncic returned to practice on Tuesday and Dallas has gone 2-2 without him. He was upgraded to questionable on yesterday’s injury report.

There are two bowl games scheduled for today. First, it’s the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, featuring Miami vs. Louisiana Tech at 3:00 pm on ESPN. Tonight at 7:00 pm, it’s the Quick lane Bowl at Ford Field in Detroit with Pittsburgh vs Eastern Michigan, also on ESPN.

New Orleans is not considering resting their number ones against Carolina this week. The Saints (12-3) are projected to be the No. 3 seed in the NFC. But they can become the No. 1 seed if they win, the Green Bay Packers (12-3) lose at Detroit and the San Francisco 49ers (12-3) lose at Seattle.

The Saints can become the No. 2 seed if they win and the Packers or 49ers lose.

There was no football on Christmas Day, but there was some NBA action.

Philadelphia beat Milwaukee 121-109, Boston over Toronto 118-102, Golden State beat Houston 116-104, the Clippers beat the Lakers 111-106 and New Orleans beat Denver 112-100.

Slugger Edwin Encarnacion and the Chicago White Sox’s are in agreement on a one-year deal for $12 million with a club option for 2021 at $12 million. Encarnacion batted .244 in 109 games last season with the Seattle Mariners and New York Yankees.

Law enforcement officials arrested a man wanted in the Saturday attack at a Midtown Nashville bar that killed two men, including the brother of San Francisco 49ers backup quarterback C.J. Beathard, and wounded another. Michael Mosley, 23, was captured on Wednesday and charged with criminal homicide, the Nashville Metro Police announced, concluding a dayslong search.
