Paris ISD fourth-grade Future Problem Solving students recently had guest speakers talk with them on essential topics to better prepare them for competition.
Josh Bray with Sanitation Solutions spoke with the students about the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling and what we can do to ensure a healthy, safe environment. In addition, Bray spoke about what his company has done to help with E-Waste (electronic waste) by discussing the creation of the newest landfill.
Will Henderson spoke with the students on their current topic, Robotic Workforce, and how influential robots will be in the Workforce in the future. The military trained Henderson as a Bomb Disposal Technician. He spoke of how they would send robots to work on bombs versus humans due to the danger involved. He often carried the three robots in his backpack during his time in the Middle East, which assisted him in his job.
Students discussed the cost, availability, bulkiness, signal strength, mobility, battery life, visibility, and maintenance of the robots.
“The students were extremely excited about both topics from our visitors,” stated Tammy King, FPS coach. “Both speakers are awesome team leaders who see the importance of doing what we need to do now to help our future.”
Bray and Henderson participated in the Future Problem Solving program as students at Paris ISD. As a result, they were both aware of the information needed to assist the students with discussing challenges and solutions to the current topics of E-Waste and the Robotic Workforce.
