Paris Police Chief Announces Department Changes

Officer David Whitaker has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Division effective November 1st.  The department uses a specialized position selection process to fill lateral transfer positions in the department such as the opening in the CID.  This process involves a review of the applying officer’s job related performance along with an interview board of senior supervisors and administrative staff. Detective Whitaker was chosen from a candidate pool of seven other officers.  Detective Whitaker will begin his training as an investigator with another detective. He will also be required to attend other advanced training as classes  become available.  Det. Whitaker had a very successful assignment as one of the department’s community oriented policing officers for the past several years.  David has been with the department for 17 years.

With this move, an opening was created in the COP unit and we didn’t have to look far for that  replacement.

Officer Curtis Graham was assigned to the COP unit a little over 2 years ago. Curtis had went through the same specialized position selection process for the COP position. After being transferred to his new position for several months, patrol staffing shortages required his move back to patrol.  He has been reassigned to the COP position.  In just a short amount of time, Graham has stepped up to his new responsibilities and has provided several outreach events to our community. Curtis has 11 years with the department and will be undergoing his training from Detective Whitaker.

Officer Graham will be continuing the outreach activities of the department and is available at 903-737-4137.
