On Thursday, officers arrested Gregory Darnell Akins, 63, for an outstanding Parole warrant in the 600 block of Martin Luther King Drive after checking on a suspicious activity incident in the area. They took him into custody without incident and transferred him to Lamar County.
Officers responded Thursday to the 900 block of Clarksville regarding a theft. Two suspects had taken over $100.00 in merchandise and left the store without paying. Police obtained a description of the suspects and located them at 600 block SW 7th Street. They were Randy Lee Sanders, 55, and Ruby Penny Washington, 57. Officers used a video to identify them. Both were arrested and charged with Theft. They filed a Class B Theft on Sanders. Washington had at least two prior convictions for Theft and was filed for Theft under $2,500.00 with two priors, a felony. They transported them to Paris Jail for booking.
On Thursday, Northeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force Officers responded to a local wrecker company lot regarding a suspicious vehicle recovery. The officer learned that the company had towed a vehicle from the 1300 block of Clarksville St. with a false license plate. A check revealed that the car came from Durant, Oklahoma. Someone had abandoned it in late December. An officer had talked with the occupants before they abandoned it. Detectives are reviewing the evidence, and the incident is under investigation.
The owner reported vehicle theft in the 1800 block of Maple Avenue. The victim left his 2009 Dodge Challenger in the driveway with the key in the ignition. An unknown suspect entered the vehicle and took it without permission. Police obtained a suspect description, and a BOLO “Be on the lookout” message for the car was issued. The vehicle was later located in the 1300 block of NW 11th by the Northeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force officers. They collected evidence and released it to the owner. The suspect took jewelry and a cash card from the car. The investigation will continue.
For this reporting period, officers made two traffic stops, arrested five adults arrests, and answered 90 calls for service.
