Early Friday, officers contacted James Octavius Jeffery, 52, in the 400 block of SE 6th. Jeffery consented to officers searching and recovering a cigarette pack from his front pocket, which contained what appeared to be methamphetamine. Jeffery snatched the cigarette pack from the officer’s hand and fled on foot. They took Jeffery into custody, and the substance tested positive for methamphetamine. Jeffery was injured during his arrest and received first aid on the scene. Officers summoned an ambulance, and they transported Jeffery to Paris Regional Medical Center, where he was treated and released into officer custody. They charged him with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Evading Arrest.

Friday morning, Paris Police worked the theft of a vehicle from the 500 block of NE 1st. The victim advised that some unknown person had loaded his car, a 2005 Mercury, blue in color, onto a trailer and towed it away. According to a witness, they took it on Monday, September 9. The victim claimed no one repossessed it, and he had given no one permission to take it. Officers entered the vehicle into NCIC’s computer and advised the Northeast Texas Auto Theft Task Force.

For this reporting period, officers made seven traffic stops, arrested four adults, and answered 129 calls for service.
