Officers of the Paris Police Criminal Investigation Unit and Auto Theft Task Force responded to a Burglary in Progress Friday in the 800 block of Clarksville St. They entered the vacant building through a broken window and located Adam Troy Payne, 42, of Reno, in the process of removing building material. Officers arrested Payne for Burglary of a Building, Theft of Materials, and Unlawful Use of a Criminal Instrument.
On Saturday night at 11:58, an officer was summoned to the 2500 block of N. Main St. about a cruelty to animals report. Patrick Alan Daigh, 32, of Paris, was acting erratically. He was screaming, yelling, and using profane language. Daigh claimed that several subjects, now gone, were harassing him. He had a dog with him in a shopping cart. Officers arrested Daigh for Disorderly Conduct. A bystander produced a cell phone and showed officers a video of Daigh beating the dog with his hand as well as picking the dog up by the collar and strangling it. He also slammed the dog’s head into the concrete sidewalk while holding the collar. Officers added Cruelty to Animals as a Felony. He was booked and placed in jail. Officers took the animal as evidence and seized it.
On Saturday, officers contacted Marcus Lorenzo Johnson, 39, of Paris, in the 100 block of NE 5th. That is where they found him walking in the middle of the road, wearing dark clothing. When approached, Johnson dropped a baggie containing narcotics and then continued walking away. He was detained but denied knowledge of the narcotics. Johnson was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.
Officers were notified Sunday of a Theft in the 3800 block of Lamar Avenue. A suspect stole over $300.00 worth of merchandise and left without paying. A secondary suspect outside the store had picked up the subject. Later, on Monday, the reporting officer observed a vehicle matching the suspect description in the 2000 block of Lamar and stopped it for a traffic violation. The driver was Justin Kenny Horne, 30. The passenger gave a fictitious name, but they identified him as Rikki De’Lane L’Orchid Johnson, 26, of Paris. A search of the vehicle revealed narcotics and drug paraphernalia. Officers arrested Horne for Possession of a controlled substance and failure to display a driver’s license. They arrested Johnson on outstanding warrants from the City of Paris and Lamar County Sheriff’s Office. Officers also charged her with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Failure to Identify as a Fugitive From Justice, and Theft from the original call. This charge was Theft under $2,500.00 with two prior charges of Theft. Police booked them and impounded the vehicle.
The owner reported the Theft of a vehicle on Sunday in the 700 block of 3rd SW. She said they had left the keys in the vehicle the night before, and payments were up-to-date. Officers entered the car into Nationwide Data Base as stolen. The victim found her vehicle at Wade Park without damage and called the police. Some items were missing, including stuffed animals and change. The investigation is ongoing.
A Burglary of a Business was reported Sunday in the 200 block of 2nd SW. The suspects broke a window with an object and stole computer components from the buildings. Suspects entered several offices and reviewed files, but nothing else could be confirmed as stolen. The incident is under investigation.
Officers made 32 traffic stops, arrested eight adults, and answered 235 calls for service for this reporting period.
