PHS Drum Line Success at Plano Competition
On Saturday (Sep 24) the Paris High School Drum Line competed at the 25th Annual Plano Drum Line Competition.
For the third year in a row, Paris received the award for Best Cymbal Line.
The percussion director James Christian said, “At this contest, schools go against each other according to their drum line size, not the school size. We went up against some 5A and 6A schools and performed quite well for this early in the season.”
This year, Paris’ cymbal line consists of just one member, freshman Austin Whitaker. “Austin has worked hard this year,” said Christian. “She has taken ownership of this important position, and she has been doing a great job. Her hard work paid off on Saturday. The fact that she placed higher than the 5A and 6A schools is quite impressive.”
The drum line performed the percussion parts from this year’s marching band show entitled “Shiver.” The first contest with the full band will be at the Northeast Texas Marching Festival on October 8 in Mount Pleasant.
