Happy Thursday!

The Chamber of Commerce is making plans for the Annual Christmas Parade through downtown Pittsburg. The parade is Saturday (Dec 3) at 1:00 pm. This year’s theme is “Christmas at the Movies.” Prizes will be awarded to first, a second and third place for floats and decorated vehicles. The entry fee is $25 for floats and $10 for vehicles. There is no entry fee for those who do not wish your entry judged. However, you still need to complete an application for each entry. Cash Prizes are made possible by our sponsors, Brookshire’s, Guaranty Bank & Trust, ETEX Crude, First National Bank, Luminant, Tommy Lee Insurance and Mayben Realty.
Thanks to Mitch Mayben and Robert Peoples, we have added a new category this year, Bicycles. To enter the parade, pick up applications at the Chamber office. Return parade applications by Dec. 1.

Friday (Nov 11) at 11:00 am, Veterans Program, Courthouse.

The First Annual Chili Cook-Off is Saturday (Nov 12) from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at TVFD Firehouse. If you want to enter your award winning chili, please contact Pam Goforth at goforthp@aol.com or for more info call Jerry Goforth at [903]767-5439.

Just want to make sure everyone knows about our Home for the Holidays event taking place Friday through Sunday (Nov 25-27) downtown. We will have an ice skating rink, open air market, free movies in Pilgrim Plaza, Santa Claus and more. Our hope is that this will attract both community members and people from other surrounding communities. This event might be a good time to advertise sales, specials, have sidewalk sales, etc. and capitalize on all the people we are planning on being in town for this event!

Did you know that most peoples will say that their fear of public speaking is worse than their fear of death? And, did you know that many will say their listening skills need lots of improvement? And leadership skills are severely lacking? If you want to improve in any of these areas, come and check out Northeast Texas Toastmasters (NETTM) and see how you can improve your speaking, listening and leadership skills pain-free!
We meet every Monday night at 6:15 pm at the Pittsburg Chamber of Commerce in downtown Pittsburg. It’s the friendliest, fun-est organization that will make you a better communicator. For questions or more information, email: sehon2@peoplescom.net or call 903-767-3464-Sharon. What have you got to improve?

The community is invited to join Habitat for Humanity of Camp County volunteers who will be building two ramps during the month of November to help Pittsburg residents with accessibility challenges. On Saturday (Nov 12) at 8:00 am Habitat will put in a ramp for Durwin Duffey at 327 Fulton Street. The following Saturday (Nov 19) at 8:00 am the affiliate, and its volunteers will put in a ramp for Doris Shaw on 621 Jefferson Street. Anyone interested in helping is encouraged to come out and bring some work gloves. Tools will be at the site. There are lunch and tea for volunteers. “There is plenty to do for everyone, even if you are not carpentry inclined,” according to Linda Baxter, the group’s executive director. Call 903-767-2306 for information.

They are back, ‘The Patrons’ playing at Jerry’s Bar & Grill Saturday (Dec 3). There will be $5 cover so come on down and listen to some good old rock and roll. We also will be having the annual Toy Drive here starting from 2:00 until 6:00. Join us with a new, unwrapped toy for those that wouldst have a Christmas without your support and Glenda Lee and her crew. The Patron will follow the Toy Drive. Hope to see all of y’all and have fun and help support our community.

Be sure to check the chamber website for more things going on in the area, Have a great weekend,
