Pittsburg-Camp Chamber

The following is in! Pittsburg Mayor Shawn Kennington is so committed to saving our fireworks show that he has agreed to make the Parachute Bingo Jump determining this year’s $1,000 winner! For those of you who have never heard of Parachute Bingo, imagine skydivers jumping from a plane onto a giant “bingo” board. Where they will land, nobody knows. When Shawn’s first foot touches the ground, he’ll determine the lucky winner.

Tickets are $5 each or five for $20. You may purchase at these locations – Big Earl’s, City Hall, Guaranty Bond Bank, Ma’s Café at the Leesburg Store, Mayben’s, Pilgrim Bank (downtown & Brookshire’s branch), Pittsburg Insurance, Texas Country Farm Supply, and Wallace Law Firm. Buy your tickets now. You do not need to be present to win.

As we mentioned last week, the Pittsburg-Camp County Chamber of Commerce is committed to carrying on this beautiful, family-friendly tradition but we cannot do so without your help! A minimum of $15,000 is needed to fund our July 4 Celebration, less than five weeks away. Here’s how you can help:

· Sponsorship – If your business has not yet committed to sponsoring the event, we encourage you to do so. At this time we have raised nearly $10,000 of the $15,000 needed to pay for the fireworks show, so sponsors are still needed! Contact the Chamber at 903-856-3442 to discuss sponsorship opportunities.

· Make a personal donation – If your family loves our annual Independence Day Blast, you can help to ensure that this family-friendly tradition continues by making a personal gift. Donation drop off locations are at the Chamber Office, Wallace Law Firm, and Pilgrim Bank. You can also donate online via Facebook. If you are on Facebook, please make a personal donation and then share the “Go Fund Me” campaign on your page – Save Pittsburg’s, Fireworks Show.

· Volunteer – As you can imagine, a July 4th Celebration requires volunteers on the day of the event. If you would like to volunteer, please contact the Chamber.

· Activities for the kids – The Independence Day Blast festivities will run from 6:30 pm through nightfall. We want to offer plenty of fun activities for children and their families. If your church, club, business or family would like to set up a booth with children’s games, face painting, etc., please contact the Chamber.

Thank you again for supporting the 2018 Pittsburg-Camp County Independence Day Blast. If you should have any questions, please call the Chamber at 903-856-3442.

Lots of exciting events are coming up in the next few weeks! See below for all of the details. As always, if you have an upcoming event, you would like included in a future email, please let me know.

This Saturday, Camp Habitat could use your help. We are removing the old porch that is causing accessibility challenges for a disabled veteran, Don Francis. We will install a temporary ramp. The home is off Dukes Chapel Road at 2396 CR 4110, left-hand side before the fork in the road. We will start working at 8:00 am on Saturday, June 2. Bring a hammer and work gloves if you have them. We will have some available. We provide donuts, water, soda, and lunch. Please spread the word and help us help this man who fought for all we hold dear.

We will then schedule a time and date to come back shortly to complete a new porch and ramp. Our rehab of this home will take several work days and will include the porch, open cabinets, and redo the worn and ragged floor covering. We will keep everyone informed as to scheduled dates in the future. Please call Linda at Habitat if you can help or you have any questions – 903-767-2306.
