The Chili Cook-Off was fun! Congratulations to the Pittsburg Lions Club for winning the Best Chili in Camp County Award for the second year in a row. Thanks to the Thunderbird Fire Dept., The Pittsburg Kiwanis Club and Cypress Bank, and Thanks to everyone who came out and ate Chili.

The annual Black History program will be held Friday (Feb 26) at Metropolitan Baptist Church located at 219 Clayton St. Food serving starts at 6:00 p.m. with the program beginning at 7:00. This year’s keynote speaker is the Rev. Patrick Lloyd, pastor of Metropolitan. Maudie Watson will serve as emcee. The program consists of several musical numbers as well as participation by younger members of the community. Everyone is invited to attend this event.

This Saturday is the annual Kid Fish at Fair Park.

Barefoot Bay – 903 856 3643 – This Friday night offers Karaoke from 8:00 pm-12:00 am. Saturday Band night features Darren Morris Band 9:00 pm until 1:00 am.

Ernie Haase & Signature Sound
The quartet Ernie Haase and Signature Sound brings their unique brand of Southern Gospel music to the stage of the Whatley Center Monday (Feb 29) at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 for adults and $10 for age 17 and under and NTCC students.

Theatre Northeast presents: Over the River & Through the Woods
A stellar cast headlines the current Theatre Northeast production of the charming comedy Over the River and Through the Woods, by Joe DiPietro. The show runs Thursday through Saturday (Feb 25-27) at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday (Feb 28) at 2:05 p.m. It is in the “Onstage Theatre” of the Whatley Center. You need reservations. Adults $10, Seniors $5, Age 17 and under $5. NTCC students with current ID are free.

NEXT WEEK: NTCC Open Mic night. Friday (Mar 4) with time TBA. Students will recite poems and other works. Guest speaker to be determined.

Does anyone want to help with a Dog Fun Run? A local community member has stepped up and wanted to do a dog run and event. It is Saturday (Jun 4). She is looking for volunteers to help and assist. This first year will be small, with the hopes that it will grow. A meeting is taking place this Friday, February 19 at 1:30 p.m. at City Hall. If interested, please come by and learn more.

Camp County Sports Association baseball/softball registration is from 10:00 until 2:00 every Saturday in February at the Elementary/ Intermediate Cafetorium. Amber Ramsey 903-856-8951

Saturday (Mar 5) hear the Ace Deuce Band and wear sleezy bar party outfit for a contest at Barefoot Bay.

The New Boston Chapter 0862 of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) will host the Annual District One Convention on Tuesday (Apr 26) in Pittsburg. The New Boston NARFE affiliate covers retired federal employees from northeast Texas counties including Camp County, Titus, Morris, Cass and Bowie County. District One includes members from Dallas through East Texas. Douglass Community Center in Pittsburg is the location of the meeting.
Our meeting will start at 9:00 am and end around 2:30 pm. We are encouraging attendees to be prepared to explore Pittsburg antique stores and eateries after the meeting. We expect from 35-50 registrants to attend. If anyone has a coupon or a small giveaway item that they would like to give us for our welcome bags, it would be much appreciated. Please drop items off with at the Chamber. We are looking forward to showing Pittsburg off to these retirees!
