A total of 26 Paris Junior College student-athletes from five teams were recently named National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) academic honors.
The Dragon baseball team was second in the nation with a GPA of 3.61 with 17 players receiving Academic All-American honors.
“NJCAA Region XIV is one of the toughest in the country, and we are consistently competitive. We are proud of our student-athletes and teams, but prouder of their academic achievement,” said PJC President Dr. Pam Anglin. “We expect our student-athletes to put their studies first and athletics second so that they can achieve both their educational and athletic goals.”
NJCAA’s All-Academic honors are divided into three categories: First Team members have a 4.00 GPA; Second Team have between a 3.80 to 3.99 GPA, and Third-Team members have between a 3.60 to 3.79-GPA.
The first team included baseball players John Altman, Jonathan Carrillo, Cody Morrow, Eric Wimpee, Michael Williams; and women’s basketball player Leigh Westbrook.
