Playoff Wins and Washouts Plus Rangers Battle ‘Stros Tonight

Paris – Last night the North Lamar Pantherette’s win game one of the regional semi-final series against Krum, 3-0. With a 1-0 series lead North Lamar softball will play game two tonight in Bonham on MIX 107.7. First pitch is at 7pm. Game three, if necessary is tomorrow in Prosper at 4.

Weather caused the North Lamar Panthers to push back their regional quarterfinal series against Athens. The two teams will play game one tonight in Prosper at 6:30 on KOYN 93.9. Game two is tomorrow in Lindale at 2. Game three will follow if Necessary.

Mount Pleasant – Weather resulting in poor field conditions have caused the Pittsburg Pirates and Pleasant Grove Hawks to push their Regional Quarterfinal Series back in the high school baseball playoffs. The two teams out of district 15-4A have re-scheduled to play game one tonight in Texarkana at Pleasant Grove. First pitch on Star Country 96.9 is set for 7pm. Games two and three are tomorrow in Pittsburg. The second game at Big Green begins at 5pm. Game three will follow approximately 30 minutes later if necessary.

Sulphur Springs – Spring Practice continues for the Sulphur Springs Wildcat football team. Over 50 High School athletes in addition to 40 Junior High 7th and 8th graders have come out for the annual pre-summer workouts. Two Sulphur Springs varsity teams and the 7th grade team will hit the road tomorrow to take on the Gilmer Buckeyes in 7 on 7 competition. The Wildcats play their first varsity game on August 26th at home against Sherman.

The Texas Rangers return to action tonight after a day off yesterday. They’ll be on the road to take on in state rival Houston. The game tonight [on kplt 1490am and 96.3fm] is scheduled for first pitch at 7:10pm.

Meanwhile, the Rangers and the City of Arlington have announced plans for a new stadium that will include a retractable roof. The stadium is expected to be completed prior to the organizations contract being up with the current stadium in 2023. The ballpark is projected to cost around $900 million.

In the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs the San Jose Sharks beat the St. Louis Blues last night 3-0 to take a 2-1 series lead in the Western Conference Finals. The East finals pick back up tomorrow at 7pm with the Pittsburg Penguins leading the Tampa Bay Lightening two games to one.

In the NBA conference finals the Cleveland Cavaliers dominate Toronto, once again, 108-89. LeBron James has a triple-double on the night with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists. The Cavs lead the East finals 2-0.

And they didn’t quite get through the full first round of the AT&T Byron Nelson in Dallas-Ft. Worth, however, leading the pack having completed their rounds were Sergio Garcia, Danny Lee and Johnson Wagner. Play is expected to resume this morning.
