Plea Bargain Reached In Sexual Assault Case

24 year old Rene Herrera of Sulphur Springs has been sentenced after pleading guilty to reduced charges in Hopkins County. Herrera was originally charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, but as the result of a plea bargain, pleaded guilty to indecency with a child by contact. He received a 10 year deferred sentence and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
