Wood County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a case of child abuse and injury to a child following notification by ETMC in Quitman of a two month old female child with multiple fractured bones. The first information was that the infant had four fractured ribs on each side of her chest and a fractured right humerus, or upper arm bone.

The child was sent to the REACH (Referral and Evaluation of At-risk CHildren) Clinic at Children’s Hospital in Dallas for further evaluation on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. That evaluation revealed many more injuries with a total of 19 fractured bones as well as bruising.

The infant was placed in CPS custody and remains there at this time. WCSO Investigator Sgt. Kyle Henson and CPS investigators are working jointly on the case.

The investigation has included many hours of interviews with family members, friends and neighbors. A search of the residence was conducted as well during which some evidence was collected.

On Monday, February 29, 2016, a warrant was obtained for the infant’s biological father, Jeffrey Lynn Arnold, age 32. Mr. Arnold war arrested in Quitman and booked into the Wood County Jail on $100,000 bond. Arnold is charged with Injury to a Child (serious bodily injury), Felony 1. He remains in jail at this time.

The investigation is ongoing and there is a possibility of additional arrests.
