Paris – Week six of high school football kicks off this weekend. A Lamar County Rivalry will highlight our KOYN Game of the Week as the Prairiland Patriots visit the Chisum Mustangs. Pre-Game with Greg Clark and Scott Kennedy is scheduled for 7:15. Kickoff is at 7:30. Meanwhile, another Red River Rivalry takes place when the undefeated Rivercrest Rebels visit the Detroit Eagles. And the Clarksville Tigers look for their first win when they host Lindsay. All games kickoff at 7:30. All other Red River Valley teams will enjoy a bye.
Mount Pleasant – Week six of the high school football season kicks off this weekend. The Morris County Rivalry returns in the Star Country Game of the Week when the Daingerfield Tigers host the Paul Pewitt Brahmas. It’s the first meeting between the two since 2009. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers will be on KLAKE 97.7, welcoming the Pine Tree Pirates to Same Parker Field. Mt. Vernon will be at Commerce and unbeaten Rivercrest are on the road against Detroit. All games kick off at 7:30. Pittsburg and Gilmer will enjoy a bye.
Sulphur Springs – Week six of the high school football season kicks off this weekend. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats play in the Star Country Game of the Week when they welcome the Marshall Mavericks to Prim Stadium while Greenville will host Hallsville in District 16-5A competition. The Mt. Vernon Tigers will travel to face off with Commerce and Winnsboro will host Farmersville in District 7-3A Division 1. And unbeaten Cumby plays their final non-district game at home against Simms Bowie. Cooper and Emory Rains will enjoy a bye.
Last night the Texas Rangers come from behind again to win the rubber match over Milwaukee 8-5. It was Carlos Gomez putting the nail in his former teams coffin with a three-run bomb in the bottom of the eight. Boston and Cleveland both lost last night, giving the Rangers a game and a half lead in the overall American League standings. Texas will have the day off today before playing the final series of the regular season over the weekend against Tampa Bay.
An MRI revealed a hairline fracture in Dallas Cowboys Wide Receiver, Dez Bryant’s right knee. Normally, the MRI would’ve been done Tuesday, but Bryant missed team meetings as well as the imaging procedure and has been fined by the organization. The return table for Dez is still not confirmed, but could miss up to six weeks.
And in the NHL, the Colorado Avalanche pull away late to beat the Dallas Stars 4-2 in pre-season hockey action.
