New Orleans Pelicans rookie sensation Zion Williamson’s shoe deal with Jordan Brand is for five years and will be the richest annual agreement for a rookie in NBA history. The contract’s annual value reportedly surpasses LeBron James’ rookie deal with Nike, a seven-year, $90-million pact he signed in 2003 after he was drafted first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Running back Melvin Gordon informed the Los Angeles Chargers he won’t be reporting to training camp when it begins. The two-time Pro Bowler threatened to hold out earlier this month in search of a new contract. Gordon can incur up to $40,000 in fines each day for missing camp.

Tennessee Titans left tackle, Taylor Lewan, is facing a suspension after a test came up positive for the banned substance ostarine, according to a post he made via social media Wednesday. Lewan’s A sample tested positive this summer, but results on his B sample are still pending and have yet to come back from the lab. Lewan, who can dispute the test results in an appeal, said he didn’t knowingly use a banned substance and posted apparent polygraph results on Instagram. He also said his supplements were tested by a third party.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward, Kevin Love, said that he will withdraw from playing for the United States at this summer’s World Cup in China. Love said that he called Team USA coach Gregg Popovich on Wednesday to inform him of his decision. Love becomes the latest player to withdraw, joining Anthony Davis, James, Harden, Damian Lillard, DeMar DeRozan, Bradley Beal, Eric Gordon, Tobias Harris, and CJ McCollum. The World Cup runs Sept. 1-15, and Team USA will spend a week in Australia playing exhibition games before going to Asia. The Americans open against the Czech Republic in Shanghai on Sept. 1.

Free-agent Pau Gasol has agreed to a one-year, $2.6 million deal with the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday. Gasol, 39, joins a reshaped Blazers roster that is prepared to make a run at a return to the Western Conference finals — and perhaps beyond.
