Rangers Get Rematch With Blue Jays in ALDS Plus HS Volleyball Results

Paris – Area volleyball picked back up last night with district competition, headlined by the first crosstown showdown of the school year. The North Lamar Pantherette’s sweep the Paris Lady Cats 25-15, 25-20, and 25-20. It’s the 43rd consecutive district victory for the Pantherette’s, who are now 4-0 this year. The Paris Lady Cats fall to 2-2. And the Prairiland Lady Patriots win straight sets over Como-Pickton 25-12, 25-16, and 25-2. Prairiland is 3-1 in district play.

Mount Pleasant – This weekend area high school football returns to action. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers look to build off their first district victory last week when they hit the road to face the Marshall Mavericks. The game can be heard live on KLAKE 97.7 with kick off scheduled for 7:30. The Mt. Vernon Tigers and Winnsboro Red Raiders clash in the Star Country Game of the Week Friday night. The Purple Tigers are 2-0 while Winnsboro has an even record of 1-1 in district 7-3A Division 1. Kick off is at 7:30.

Sulphur Springs – This weekend area high school football returns to action. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats look to get on the playoff path in district 16-5A when they visit the 8th ranked Texas High Tigers in Texarkana. The game can be heard live on Star Country 95.9. Kickoff is at 7:30. The Mt. Vernon Tigers host a rivalry game against the Winnsboro Red Raiders Friday night. The Cooper Bulldogs celebrate homecoming at Bulldog Stadium against the Chisum Mustangs and Cumby looks to remain unbeaten on the season as they begin district 9-2A Division 2 at home against Maud. All games Friday kick off at 7:30.

Last night the Texas Rangers learned their American League Division Series opponent when the Toronto Blue Jays walk it off in 11 innings to eliminate Baltimore 5-2. Texas will hold home field advantage in the best of five division series, beginning with game one tomorrow afternoon at Globe Life Park in Arlington. First pitch [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm] is set for 3:38pm.

The Dallas Stars continue the NHL pre-season with a 2-1 shootout victory over the Florida Panthers. Patrick Eaves scored his second tune up goal to lead the Stars, assisted by Jordie and Jamie Benn. Dallas has two more exhibitions before beginning the regular season next week on Thursday. The first of the two is tonight against Colorado. Puck drop is at 7:30.

The Dallas Mavericks have also began the pre-season. On Monday, the Mavs defeated the Charlotte Hornets 95-88 behind 20 points from Seth Curry. The Mavs are back in action on Saturday against the Bucks.
