Rangers Lose Plus High School Football In Today’s Sports Update

 

The Dallas City Council Wednesday afternoon unanimously voted to name Olive Street, in front of the American Airlines Center, “Nowitski Way,” in honor of retired Dallas Maverick legend Dirk Nowitski. The name change takes effect on November 24.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce football team rose to the No. 11 spot in the national rankings in this week’s American Football Coaches Association Division II coaches’ poll. The Lions moved to 3-0 on the year after a commanding 45-27 win over Eastern New Mexico in the team’s conference opener on Saturday. Quarterback Miklo Smalls (Plano–East) threw for four touchdown passes, earning LSC Offensive Player of the Week honors after setting the top mark this season in all of Division II in single-game passing efficiency rating. In addition, Dominique Ramsey (Converse Judson) was named LSC Special Teams Player of the Week after a 55-yard punt return for a touchdown, and the Lion defense forced a pair of turnovers.

Week 4 of the NFL season gets underway tonight as the Philadelphia Eagles are in Green Bay to face the Packers.

Christian Vazquez, Mitch Moreland, and Rafael Devers homered, and Rick Porcello won what could be his final start for Boston as the Red Sox beat the Texas Rangers 10-3 Wednesday night. The final game of the series is this afternoon at 1:05 pm.

If Urban Meyer returns to coaching, he said it wouldn’t be to lead the Michigan Wolverines. Meyer, the former Ohio State Buckeyes coach who went 7-0 against Michigan, told WBNS radio in Columbus on Wednesday that he’s enjoying his work as a Fox and Big Ten Network analyst, and as an Ohio State athletic administrator and instructor.

Running back Melvin Gordon contacted the Los Angeles Chargers and told them he plans to report on Thursday, ending his 64-day holdout. Although he now is set to rejoin his teammates, Gordon expects 2019 will be his final season with the Chargers.

Antonio Brown tweeted Sunday that he would not be playing in the NFL anymore. His agent isn’t so sure. Drew Rosenhaus, speaking on Warren Sapp’s “99 Problems” podcast, said, “I believe that Antonio wants to continue his career in the NFL. “I have had discussions with a few teams that are very interested in him.”

Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving suffered a left-side facial fracture when he was elbowed in the face at the team’s practice facility Tuesday, the team announced Wednesday. The Nets said Irving is day-to-day with the injury. Irving was sent to the hospital for evaluation after being injured during a pickup game. Coach Kenny Atkinson told NetsDaily.com that Irving was “OK.”
