Rangers Lose Tough One To Rockies Plus HS Football Scrimmages in Tap

Paris – The Chisum Lady Mustangs began hosting their volleyball tournament yesterday morning and afternoon with pool play. Tomorrow the tournament will conclude at Chisum high school.

Today it begins. Area high school football teams play their first scrimmages. The Paris Wildcats will be on the road against Celina Friday night at 7pm. The North Lamar Panthers will be at Denison tomorrow at 7 as well. Chisum will take on Howe. While Prairiland and Rivercrest square off at Patriot Stadium.

Mount Pleasant – Coming up this weekend area high school football teams take on their first opponents in scrimmages. The Mt. Pleasant Tigers host Liberty Eylau on Friday morning at 10am. Mt. Vernon will host Canton. The Pittsburg Pirates will be on the road at Carthage. And on Saturday morning Paul Pewitt will be in Red River County to take on the Clarksville Tigers at 10am as well.

In volleyball, the Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers began competing in the Van tournament yesterday. The tournament will conclude tomorrow evening.

Sulphur Springs – Coming up this weekend area high school football teams take on their first opponents in scrimmages. The Mt. Vernon Tigers will host the Canton Eagles on Friday. The Commerce Tigers are on the road to tune up against Whitesboro. Rains makes the trip to Alba-Golden. And Como-Pickton will be on the road to take on the Winnsboro Raiders.

In high school volleyball action the Sulphur Springs Lady Cats begin pool play today at the Garland Invitational. The tournament will conclude Saturday evening.

Yesterday afternoon the Texas Rangers take three of four from the Colorado Rockies, but drop a slugfest in the series finale 12-9. Adrian Beltre and Mitch Moreland homered back to back in the 7th. It wouldn’t be enough as the Rangers fall to 68-48 on the season, but still lead the AL West by 6.5 games over Seattle. Texas will host the Detroit Tigers this weekend beginning tonight. It’s Darvish day as Yu takes the mound. First pitch [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm] is set for 7:05.

Last night in the Rio Olympics, team USA continues their dominance in gymnastics and in the pool. Simone Biles wins gold in the women’s individual All-Around while her teammate, Aly Raisman wins silver. In swimming, Simone Manuel wins gold in the women’s 100-meter freestyle. And Michael Phelps wins his 22nd gold medal and the 26th overall in the men’s 200m individual medley. The United States lead the Rio games with 37 total medals and 15 golds.

And tomorrow the Dallas Cowboys play their first pre-season game of the season at the Los Angeles Coliseum against the Rams. Kickoff on [101.9 KBUS] is set for 7pm.
