Rangers Take Series in Houston Plus HS Football

Paris – Area football teams took to the field for their first competitive action in intra-squad scrimmages. Teams will begin scrimmages against opposition coming up this weekend. Meanwhile, area volleyball teams play their season openers tomorrow. The North Lamar Pantherettes begin the season against Sherman and Sulphur Springs in Sulphur Springs at 4pm. The Paris Lady Cats have a dual meet against Denison and Whitesboro at Whitesboro beginning at 4:30. The Prairiland Lady Patriots host Pleasant Grove starting at 4:30 and the Chisum Lady Mustangs are on the road at James Bowie at 4pm.

Meanwhile, area volleyball teams play their season openers tomorrow. The Mt. Pleasant Lady Tigers play their first game at home against Maud. Matches begin at 7. The Chapel Hill Lady Devils host Pittsburg at 7 as well. The Lady Pirates begin their season tonight when they hit the road to take on Linden-Kildare.

Meanwhile, area volleyball teams play their season openers tomorrow. The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats host Sherman and North Lamar at Wildcat Gym to kick off the season. Matches begin at 4pm this afternoon. North Hopkins is on the road at Roxton at 5pm. Mt. Vernon will host New Boston at 5 and Cumby will visit Commerce at 6. And Miller Grove.

Last night the Texas Rangers finished up their series win over the Houston Astros, taking the rubber match 5-3 in 11 innings. Matt Bush closed the door on the series for Texas. The Rangers are now 65-47 on the season and hold a 7 game lead over 2nd place Seattle in the AL West. Texas hits the road to take on the Colorado Rockies tonight [on KPLT 1490am and 96.3fm]. First pitch is at 7:40.

The Dallas Cowboys played their annual Blue\White Scrimmage yesterday evening in Oxnard, California. The glorified practice was highlighted by a 33-yard score from Romo to Dez. The Cowboys also made a signing, bringing in undrafted rookie defensive end Shaneil Jenkins.

And in Rio, 19 year old swimmer, Katie Ledecky of the United States, broke her own World Record in the 400 meter free style with a time of 3:56.46 to collect her first gold medal of the games. The U.S. currently leads with 11 medals won, including two gold and five silver.
